Explorative Costume Workshop

Three day explorative costume workshop at The Danish National School of Performing Arts, Copenhagen, June 2018

Participants were asked to actively participate in wearing, exploring and reflecting upon costumes. The workshop explored the following questions:

How does it feel like wearing a costume? How does the costume affect my movement and perception as a performer?

How do we perceive someone wearing a costume? What characters arise?

How can we have an awareness of the costume from within and at the same time keep a gaze from the outside? As a wearer (performer), the feeling of the material on the body may be a personal experience; it is also critical to incorporate a second perspective – perceiving the costume from the outside. How can we have a critical dialogue between the sensorial feeling (inside) and the visual expression (outside) of a costume?

The workshop was lead by Charlotte Østergaard with Sally E. Dean as co-researcher.

The workshop was a part of Charlotte Østergaards artistic research project In Dialogue with Material at the Danish National School of Performing Arts.
